We live in another state and were required to make substantial renovations to our home in Newport . We were given Scotts name and met him on site. He reviewed the job, and helped us understand what had to be done to complete the job. Scott and Haven took charge of job on site and worked through the design, permit and construction phases. Just as we began Covid hit. In the face of a potential "shut down", Haven worked with the sub contractors and the city and established a process that allowed work to proceed. As importantly it was done in a with no increase in budget. The final results of the effort were everything we hoped, The quality of the workmanship was superior in all regards. Scott Phelps, owner of Haven Development is a conscientious, detail oriented General Contractor. He did an excellent job building our new home on the Newport Beach Peninsula. We converted a 1940's duplex to a contemporary home with separate apartment while maintaining our R-2 zoning. Our home was a challenging build because of the 10% restrictions on adding additional living space in Newport Beach. We utilized an indoor-outdoor design which incorporated considerable amounts of glass and steel beam engineering. Scott worked diligently with our engineers and the City of Newport Beach to overcome various challenges to complete the project successfully. Haven Development did a complete remodel and renovation of our home, built in 1971, down to the foundation. The project started in February, 2015, and was completed in September, 2015 - right on the schedule that Scott (the owner) had given us. This was a huge project. It included, among other things, replacing all plumbing and electrical, the roof, HVAC, insulation, installing radiant flooring, removing interior walls, and installing steel posts and beams to achieve a contemporary open concept. The entire style of the house changed from your typical 1970's California house (with a sunken living room and closed off kitchen and dining room) to a contemporary interpretation of mid-century modern. Scott is extremely knowledgeable, worked very well with our architect and engineers, hired excellent subcontractors, stayed in charge of the entire project, and delivered an unbelievably wonderful result.
